this is a tough subject to discuss for many reasons. Like... We are used to talking about America's problems. That's the norm. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that on it's worst day America is vastly better than most countries in almost every way. It's the type of thing that people who are born with inalienable rights have never considered. Additionally to that... I've seen desperation most Americans can't relate to at all. I think personally, I have tried hard not to lose sight of America's strength because of the toxic media landscape. I tend to meet lots of people who flirt with giving away what they could never lose by right of their birth. People who have escapist fantasies because it's all so much to take in. Not me. Never me.
There are immigration issues to be sure. But it baffles me that people in 2025 are falling for the identical propaganda their great grandfathers were 100 years ago. I know many... many... immigrants. They're not the demons the news makes them out to be. Not even the illegal ones. And... let's stop pretending the issue is about illegal immigration. Trump's wife is an immigrant, so is Vance's. Elon is an immigrant. Trump LOVES some immigrants without any shame about it. The issue isn't about hating illegals. It's about hating brown people.
It's a mix. I'm used to hell. I'm The Devil. In fact. But seriously... though. I hate the loss of the Canada/USA alliance. Trudeau honestly brought me to tears.
He hasn't been the best for us if we look at it by-the-book, but we were in Peace. I'm sure the Alliance will come back; at some point, Americans will stand up to this bully or just let him drown himself... I believe.🙏
Anton - Great piece. Even citizens don't feel safe in this environment, but a legal resident would be justifiably concerned. I love the phrase "laws like mood swings." (Not because I love the situation behind the phrase, but because it captures how I feel about the shitty administration.) But remember this: What they're doing is DESIGNED to create the fear you are feeling. I know it's easier to say this than live it, but let's do everything we can to deny them THAT power. You writing about it is a great first step! Well done.
All true. But the country has overcome worse. I admit, I am not proud right now to be American. While much damage has been done, I think the world is rooting for us to re-set. Although I think we won’t return to 1990’s hegemony. But let’s not concede they’ve won. That’s what they’re counting on.
We haven't been required to be this tough in a long time. I've already connected the dots to a possible draft happening. Of one kind or another. This is not the time to be weak.
How do such dark forces spring up, perpetuate and take over? We're on the losing end of this fight. Times like these are asking us all to be stronger than we commonly understand ourselves to be. We must. It's scary.
This article hits hard. I am not an immigrant so my experience is not comparable, but nonetheless, it resonates

Unless you're a American Indian..you are a immigrant.

You are 100% right about that, did not mean to imply otherwise
You are absolutely right, I didn't mean to imply otherwise.
We must unite. Alone we die. Together we thrive!
I like the energy. We must do something. There is agency in the situation.
If we forget our history, she may forget us in return.

This must be hell. As a Canadian I see all of this from afar (so far) and I don't like it. I pray every day that things get back to "normal" soon....

Anton..I know..I feel ya. Can we make it to 2029 ? I doubt it..
We thought Covid was hard.
Sorry, I can imagine..I feel the Covid times where a test ..how far they can push.
Seems like a walk in the park compared to whatever is coming next. These are the strangest of times.
You are so right..
Back in the day peole scattered all over the Globe.
New Zealand is still top of the list.
But how many lifetimes do you need to start over and over again.
Dear BY - If we can make it to the midterms (Nov., 2026) maybe a changed Congress can be a partial check on this madness.
Thank you for your words. But we dont know how much damage has been done by than.
And how effectively will Congrass wake up from the deepfreeze.
If you think its madness...but its madness by design.
A design that had been forged in 4 years. And everyday the "Mayflower" is drifting further away.

Look I get it..in 2014 Germany 🇩🇪 where I am from got overrun by the southern countries. The floodgates opened due to their forever wars.
And that my friend started the downward spiral for the established western world.
When Germany had the "welcome culture " that brought all the voices to life that want to go back to 1938..
Crazy right?
Yeah, history repeats and all that. I sense that we are being tested by greater forces. It's up to us which fork in the road we take.

Imagine, your need in the forrest....you dont see any fork in a road, unless you can climb to the Treetops.
